At Home in the Keough School
New Dean Moves Keough School Forward
The Pulte Institute is one of nine centers and institutes
within the Keough School of Global Affairs. Our Institute
and Core Affiliated Faculty are among more than 70 who
claim the Keough School as their academic home, leading
research and student formation focused on the world’s
greatest challenges and in service to the common good.
From the Social Entrepreneurship and Innovation (SEI) Minor
offered on campus for undergraduates to experiential
learning made possible through the Integration Lab (i-Lab)
for Master of Global Affairs degree candidates, the Pulte
Institute partners within the Keough School to create and
facilitate opportunities for students to connect across
differences and make change regardless of distance—
between their own lived experience and that of others.
In meetings with policymakers, the Pulte Institute team
shares research collected with hundreds of local partners
to inform decisions foundational to creating equity in
education, health, access to—and compensation for—
shared natural resources, and effective governance in the
communities we accompany.
The Keough School named Mary Gallagher
to succeed founding Dean Scott Appleby
as the second in its history.
An integral part of the Keough School, the Pulte Institute’s work
connects evidence to policy and practice to combat poverty.
Through education, innovation, and the implementation of
research in collaboration with local partners, we are committed
to creating a future where human dignity is honored
and protected.
Gallagher, formerly the Amy and Alan Lowenstein Chair in
Democracy, Democratization and Human Rights and director of
the International Institute at the University of Michigan, began a
five-year term on July 1, 2024. Appointed the Marilyn Keough
Dean of the Keough School by former President Rev. John I.
Jenkins, C.S.C., Gallagher is also a full professor in the
Keough School.
