Pulte Meets With D.C. Policymakers to Effect Change
The Pulte Institute for Global Development
Leadership from the Pulte Institute, including Danice Brown
Guzmán, Tracy Kijewski-Correa, Tom Purekal, and Michael
Sweikar, traveled to Washington, D.C., in March 2024 for a
series of meetings with legislators. On Capitol Hill, they shared
insights about how researchers and technical professionals
from the Pulte Institute evaluate the effectiveness of federal
policies and programs, focusing on global education and
migration. This evaluation is critical to ensuring the appropriate
allocation of resources to the most effective programs and
supporting the design of initiatives that serve communities in
need.
Conversations with staff members in the offices of lawmakers
and representatives from an array of organizations highlighted
the bipartisan nature of their mission. Among nearly 20
meetings were discussions with the offices of Senator
Cory Booker (D-NJ), Senator Todd Young (R-IN), the Senate
Foreign Relations Committee, and the House Appropriations
Subcommittee on State, Foreign Operations, and
Related Programs.
The meetings served as a platform to highlight the importance
of evidence-based policy making. By developing robust
evaluations, the institute informs and improves the efficacy of
federal programs that impact global education and migration,
among others. The discussions underscored the collaborative
efforts required to address global challenges and the need for
informed decision-making at the highest levels of government.
The spring visit marked another step forward in the Pulte
Institute’s ongoing mission to fight poverty and promote
sustainability through informed and impactful policy guidance.
