Supporting Holistic and Actionable Research in Education (SHARE) is a
cooperative agreement between USAID and the University of Notre Dame
advancing global education priorities. The scope of SHARE extends across
19 low- and middle-income countries around the world. With leadership
provided by the Pulte Institute and Notre Dame’s Global Center for the
Development of the Whole Child, and in partnership with local research
institutions, SHARE facilitates work needed to identify policy and practice
recommendations to improve education outcomes—a proven pathway
out of poverty.

Projects supported by the SHARE award entered their fourth year
in 2024. Six of the seven multi-country studies have now moved
toward the dissemination phase—a critical opportunity for in-
country education systems to benefit from the
evidence generated.
Work is underway by USAID to extend SHARE’s award to advance
global learning needed to improve education outcomes in middle-
and low-income countries. For the last year, researchers from
the Pulte Institute have worked to update two of USAID’s four
education learning agendas: Foundational Skills Development
and Education in Crisis and Conflict. This process has included
three regional workshops to identify high-priority learning areas
in international education development, surveys of education
stakeholders worldwide, and ongoing conversations with subject
matter experts at USAID.
The Future of SHARE
Newly identified areas that SHARE may explore through small
grants and other funding opportunities:
•
Cost-effective professional development opportunities to
improve teacher performance and student learning outcomes
•
Approaches and tools to support access, inclusion,
and learning of all children and youth, particularly from
marginalized groups
•
Initiatives to advance children’s social-emotional learning
•
Cost effective delivery of soft skills training to improve youth
employment outcomes
