Since its inception, the Pulte Scholars Program has awarded scholarships to 83 students across 
these educational institutions: Ferris State University, Northern Michigan University, Industrial Arts 
Institute, the University of Notre Dame, Academy of the Sacred Heart, and Mackinac Island Public School.
These scholars exemplify hard work, leadership, and a commitment to making a meaningful impact 
in their communities.
Marcus Chidester, a senior at Northern Michigan University studying Construction Management, is one 
such distinguished Pulte Scholar. Originally from Howell, MI, he began his college career at Lawrence 
Technological University on a football scholarship. However, a summer internship with Barton Mallow 
shifted his focus from architecture and engineering to construction management, ultimately leading him to 
Northern Michigan University.
As Vice President of Operations for the Northern Michigan University Constructors Club, Marcus has played 
a key role in various community service projects. One of his most meaningful experiences was leading a 
project at Perkins Park in Big Bay, MI, where he helped improve electrical infrastructure and enhance the 
park’s environment.
The Constructors Club’s dedication to community improvement earned them Northern Michigan 
University’s prestigious 2023-24 Community Service Award, recognizing their outstanding contributions.
After graduating in May 2025, Marcus plans to join a major construction firm and continue making an 
impact through community development.
Northern Michigan University’s Construction Management program has also benefited from the William 
J. Pulte Scholarship Fund and the William J. Pulte Community Service Endowment Fund, which have 
provided resources for transformative projects. Their most recent work includes the construction of the 
Noquemanon Trail Network Trailhead Pavilion and enhancements to Northern Michigan University’s soccer 
field entrance.
